Koh Xiu Heng

Program & Advocacy Officer

Biography

Graduated from Binghamton University in 2014 with a double major in Economics and PPL (Philosophy, Politics and Law), He was inspired by the free exchange of ideas and exposure to various social issues in school. Committed to fight for social justice and equality, his worldview is shaped by intersectional feminism, which sees race, class, gender and religion as interwoven and views social, political and economic issues as interconnected. Growing in a family with many strong female role models, he understood from an early age that empathy is the key to understanding the human condition. By seeing exemplifications of strength through both toughness and vulnerability from those women in his life, he realized the importance of challenging the status quo and breaking down social norms that have been passed down for generations without critical examination. He hopes that his conviction will continue to fuel his passion in being an ally for those who are marginalized and helping them realize their potential.

Life Quote: “We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there “is” such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

His Role: To engage, organize and empower communities through the celebration of our common and universal humanity.

Fun Fact: He was in the glee club in college and can attest to the fun and exhilarating experience portrayed on the tv show, Glee, minus all the drama.
