Many Orang Asli living in off-grid villages have no access to electricity. We address energy poverty by introducing portable, cost-effective and renewable solar energy.

The Issues

Palm tree seed for fire

Hazardous and
Unsustainable Energy

The orang asli rely on kerosene lamps, wood fires, and dried palm kernel bonfires for light and warmth. These could affect their health in the long-term and pose a fire hazard.

Paying More
for Energy

Some families rely on diesel-powered generators, car batteries, and heavy-duty 6V batteries for power. They are spending more than the average person despite their low power consumption.

Limited
Activities at Night

Children are unable to study at night, causing them to fall behind and eventually drop out. Women have less time to be productive; they cannot see properly at night and risk hurting themselves when doing chores.

Benefits of Access to Solar Energy
Energy Expenditure2

Reduce Energy Expenditure

From buying expensive energy sources that are not sustainable

Health Impact

Reduce Health & Environmental Impact

From non-renewable energy and less environmental pollution as well

Productivity

Improve Productivity

By having more productive hours in the evening for house chores and studying for children

The Technology

High Powered Solar System

An AC solar system in community spaces (Rumah Adat) provides various potential for the community, such as lights and a community freezer that require electricity.

Sunking Solar Lighting

Address the daily needs of families with cost effective and easy-to-use solar devices that provide lighting and phone charging.
