Last year, we collaborated with Laneige Malaysia and together we successfully provided clean and safe drinking water through an ultrafiltration water filtration installed in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Perak and Kampung Binjai, Pahang.
On 17 April 2017, Laneige Malaysia held a press conference to officially announce the collaboration with Global Peace Foundation Malaysia on the fundraising campaigns to provide clean water to more communities. Foong Winnie, the Brand Manager of Laneige, said, “This campaign is a part of our bigger cause to provide the underprivileged communities of Malaysia to access to clean water.”
With every Water Sleeping Mask sold, Laneige will set aside RM10 for the Waterful Sharing Campaign 2017 and is expecting to raise RM100,000 for the campaign through the sales. Customers who purchase the Water Sleeping Mask will receive a complimentary ‘Refill Me’ design limited edition water bottle.
This year, Global Peace Foundation Malaysia is targeting to bring the campaign to Kampung Padang in Pahang and Kampung Poh in Perak. Kampung Padang relies on an unprotected well, while Kampung Poh is dependent on hilltop gravity-fed water. Neither of them has any means of proper filtration for the water, exposing them to waterborne diseases and contaminations.
During the press conference, we also introduced the Swiss-designed award-winning brand – Lifestraw Community Water Filter to the media. Lifestraw Community has a 50-litre tank with 12L/hour filtration capability, completely chemical-free and does not require electricity to operate. The portability of the filtration system will greatly benefit scattered communities.
Laneige Malaysia and Global Peace Foundation Malaysia are both committed to the sustainability of the clean water campaign. While a water filtration system was installed in both Kampung Binjai and Kampung Ulu Geruntum last year, we learnt that due to the sparsity of the villages, fetching water from the water filtration system becomes very time consuming for some villagers. Dr Teh, CEO of Global Peace Foundation Malaysia, explained in his speech, “During normal days when their water source looks good, they wouldn’t take their time and collect filtered water”. Resuming 2016’s efforts, Kampung Binjai and Kampung Ulu Geruntum will also be receiving an additional 4 units of the new Lifestraw water filtration systems.
“This campaign isn’t just about us giving back to the society as this will be a collective effort. We are more than thrilled to work alongside with Global Peace Malaysia to help elevate the livelihood of the rural communities,” Foong said.
Laneige’s Beauty Roadshow will be held across Malaysia from 8th May onwards for the public to purchase the Water Sleeping Mask and participate in the campaign. Global Peace Malaysia is set to deliver the water filters to the respective villages in July.
