In conjunction with GPLE Malaysia, the GPF Korea decided to extend their ‘Alllights Village’ projects to several areas in East Malaysia, following the programme’s success in Philippines during the Global Peace Leadership Exchange initiative between GPF Korea and the GPF Philippines.
This programme is designed to address poverty problems by providing the villagers with inexpensive, environmentally friendly LED solar lanterns to rural areas with limited access to electrical power, providing nighttime illumination to aid children’s studies and other household needs.
The first ‘Alllights Village’ was in Kg Sosopon and Kg Terian, Penampang where about 35 delegates including the Mayor of Yang Cheon-gu City in Korea and 5 Malaysian personnel under Department of Unity and National Integration (JPNIN Sabah) willingly travelled about an hour into the jungle to directly handover their solar lamp donation for the villagers.
With the remarkable results achieved, the programme will continue to bring impactful changes to the society with everyone’s involvement.
As GPF Korea President Dr David Yoo exclaimed, “By working with the government of Malaysia, the Alllights Project will accomplish a visible outcome as soon as possible.” He also added, “At the same time, it is important for Malaysians to have ownership so that they can continue to spread this project.”
